About

Located at Westbourne Green Open Space in Central London's W2 area, this site has been strategically chosen for its position along the A40 Westway, one of London's main arterial routes, where environmental intervention can deliver maximum impact for air quality and noise reduction. This innovative micro forest initiative represents a rare opportunity to plant nearly 6,000 trees in the UK using the proven Miyawaki method, transforming a 5-acre urban green space.

Environmental Impact

This strategic planting will create vital environmental barriers while enhancing an existing public green space used by local residents and visitors. The micro forests will significantly improve air quality by capturing airborne pollutants through carefully selected species with rough, textured leaves that naturally filter particulates from traffic emissions.

The project will double the current species diversity, creating interconnected wildlife habitats that support urban biodiversity while providing natural climate resilience. The multi-layered vegetation will reduce noise pollution from nearby roads and help manage stormwater runoff, contributing to the area's flood resilience.

Community Engagement & Recognition

Corporate sponsors can participate directly through team planting days during the October-November 2025 planting season, creating meaningful volunteer experiences for employees. The project includes permanent co-branded park signage acknowledging funders, along with extensive media coverage documenting the environmental impact.

Local community groups are actively involved in ongoing monitoring and care, ensuring long-term success while providing educational opportunities about urban forestry and biodiversity restoration. This creates lasting connections between funders, communities, and the developing forest ecosystem.

The initiative spans six designated sections focusing on biodiversity enhancement, pollution mitigation, and community productivity through edible fruit-bearing trees. Two sections have already been successfully planted in early 2025, with 3,325 trees still available for funding across the remaining areas.

Each section represents a distinct environmental focus, from pollution barriers featuring evergreen species to biodiversity zones with flowering and fruiting trees. The project includes professional establishment care for the first three years, with protective fencing and regular monitoring to ensure successful growth.

This partnership with Westminster City Council offers a unique opportunity to create measurable environmental impact in Central London while engaging directly with community wellbeing and climate resilience initiatives.
