Project Summary
Transforming School Grounds programme creates nature-rich spaces in urban schools where access to green environments is most limited. We believe every child deserves access to nature to build strong connections with the natural world and support their mental health and wellbeing. This programme specifically targets state-funded schools in urban areas experiencing high levels of deprivation, where students spend the majority of their day in schools with minimal green spaces.
Working in partnership with environmental education specialists, we empower entire school communities to transform underutilised areas into vibrant outdoor learning laboratories. Students lead the design process through creative workshops, while teachers receive comprehensive training to integrate outdoor learning across the curriculum. Each project creates lasting green legacies that benefit current students and future generations, while building climate literacy and addressing eco-anxiety through hands-on nature connection.
Our holistic approach combines youth voice leadership with expert ecological guidance to create bespoke nature-based solutions tailored to each school's specific needs and location. From rain collection systems and sensory gardens to wildlife habitats and outdoor classrooms, every element is designed by students for students, ensuring meaningful engagement and long-term sustainability.
